Muay Thai Boran Punches 1: Ka Jig Khai

As we have been doing, we are continuing with it now. But we will put everything in groups for you so you won’t be confused. You can come here every week to update and learn the real Muay Thai moves.

The first move I’m starting with is from Muay Thai’s Cherng Mud. If you don’t know this, “Mud” in Thai means “fist” and “Cherng” means “method or way” so Muay Thai Cherng Mud is basically the Muay Thai’s Punches.

We have collected all of the punching moves in Thai boxing right here but we will put it here one at a time to help you learn slowly but effectively, giving you time to practice the move yourself.

The first punch is a straight punch which named in ancient Muay Thai “Ka Jig Khai”. The straight punch is the move used for attack, defense and escape. A straight left or left swing is thrown out to the targets which are the face area like eyes, nose or chin. Perfect the move by always using your knuckles to hit the targets and combining it with a twist of your shoulders because the power will be driven from your legs, your body, and your shoulders to your fist.

Always be careful. A miss use of the move and not flexible enough to move away and avoid any attack from your opponent can get you in troubles or you can end up wasting too much of your energy without any good results. However if you use it right, this hit can cause someone death.

Defense: To ensure that the straight fist from the opponent would not land solidly, it should be warded off by a right punch. One can also protect with his fists and quickly move away from the oncoming attack.

Attack: As the left side remains vulnerable when the straight fist is executed, the right knee can be thrown to the attacker’s left rib.
